Solo operator · Photography + Video

Ranga's Media is me, Kian Lynn. I shoot and edit photo and video in Canberra: music, dance, sport, portraits and brand work. One person from the first frame to the file you post.

Where this started

I started Ranga's Media in 2024 because I wanted local clubs, musicians and brands to look how they deserve. Small shoots and game coverage first. Then reels, portrait days, brand campaigns and ongoing work for clients posting weekly.

01

Where it started

My dad was a photographer for years while he was in the army, and he did well out of it, so it always intrigued me. But I also just love capturing people. The reaction you get when someone loves a photo of themselves brings me joy.

02

The shoot that changed how I work

A shoot for GroundUp Studio changed how I look at a project. It showed me how a bigger company runs its marketing, and it changed how I value my own work. Since then I have raised my prices and taken on bigger clients.

03

Michael Paynter, and why I do my own edit

Out of all 1500 there was one frame I was hoping to get before I even arrived at the venue. Wide. Negative space. Him centre stage in a big, mostly empty theatre, looking small. I held my breath when I took it. If someone else had edited that frame, they wouldn't have known what the room felt like. That is why I do my own editing. Not because I think I'm better at colour than someone with ten years on me. I'm not. But I know the night.

What the job actually is

I thought the camera was the job. The camera is maybe 30% of the job. Picking which photos to send is 60. The other 10 is the edit on the ones that made it. A 45 photo set isn't 45 random good photos. It's 45 photos that work in order.

What I enjoy about it

I just love talking to people. Making someone's vision come true, for themselves or their business, and working with them to make something special and bring out the best in them.

What working with me is like

If you are awkward in front of a camera
Almost everyone says it. The first ten minutes of a portrait session are for getting past that, and they are part of the hour you booked.
Before an event
One person to deal with on the night. A first set goes out while people are still posting about it, and the full edited gallery follows once it is done properly.
Agreeing a video brief
Changes are quoted per shoot and agreed before we start. Bigger jobs get a delivery date agreed up front, and it goes in the quote.
After the shoot
Photos by next week. Reels inside the fortnight, and a bigger video job gets a delivery date agreed up front. Everything lands in a private gallery you can send on. You get the frames worth keeping. The rest gets cut.

A client's note

The moments you captured during the 2026 NAIDOC week Basketball tournament showed both the grit and personality of the U16B Barrgana Dodgers team. Thank you!

A few lines is plenty. If you already know the date and the scope, the brief builds the quote.
